The following are some model years and their common issues.

Why the 1999 Ford Expedition Falls Short: Common Problems and Drawbacks
The 1999 Expedition is one of the worst model years of the Expedition, as it has received hundreds of engine complaints and nine recalls. Spark plugs in the 1999 Expedition blow out of their sockets. Additionally the year is rife with engine, electrical, and wheel issues. At least five investigations occurred for this particular model year.
Spark Plug Failures in the 2000 Ford Expedition are an Ongoing Issue
Spark plug issues continued into this model year. Nine official recalls occurred on the 2000 Expedition, with added problems in the electrical system, suspension and wheels/hubs.
The 2003 Ford Expedition Has the Highest Number of Complaints
This model year received the most complaints of all model years as well as six recalls. The spark plug problem remained and brake failure issues, engine, electrical, and drivetrain problems added to the mix, making the 2003 model year one of the worst on record.
The 2004 Ford Expedition: Dealing with Seat Belt and Airbag Failures
The spark plug issues finally improved as did the Expedition’s engine issues. However, seat belt/airbag malfunction had now become prevalent, and there were four official recalls.
The 2005 Ford Expedition’s Ongoing Electronic and Mechanical Problems
The 2005 model year saw problems with its electronic throttle, bad injectors, and a stalling engine. Fuel system and electrical problems were also prevalent. There were five recalls for this model year and an inspection for steel wheel fracture.
2006-2007 Ford Expedition: Engine Shut-Off Issues to Paint and Body Problems
Engine problems returned with a vengeance in 2006—engines would shut off when their fail-safe light came on. Transmission, electrical, and brake problems were also reported and this model year was recalled six times.
By 2007, engine issues had largely disappeared but Ford was not out of the woods. Electrical, fuel system and steering problems remained, and exterior paint chipped and peeled around the wheel wells, door edges, and lower body panel. Two recalls were conducted for these models.
Problems Resurface in the Ford Expedition After a Decade
The Expedition remained mostly problem free until 2015, which was when the spark plug problem returned. Many models were also recalled due to front blower motor failure as well as further electrical and powertrain systems issues.
