Before we get into the major difference between the EcoBoost and GT models, let’s talk about the complete hierarchy of Mustang trim models. For 2020, drivers can choose from five Mustang models: EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium, and Bullitt.
EcoBoost and GT models feature diverse powertrains. However, when it comes to comfort and convenience features, they’re very similar, though the GT does give you a slightly longer list. The same goes for the EcoBoost Premium and GT Premium models, which add more comfort and convenience items.
The Bullitt is essentially a special edition of the Mustang GT, designed to elicit nostalgia from Steve McQueen fans. They’ll remember the original Bullitt, a 1968 movie starring Steve McQueen and featuring an iconic forest green Mustang. This 2020 special-edition Mustang features an exclusive Highland Green exterior paint option, special wheels, and a variety of Bullitt badges.

The main difference between EcoBoost and GT models is what’s under the hood. In EcoBoost and EcoBoost Premium trims, a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine makes 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. That’s plenty of output for speeding onto highways and around tracks. But, if you want more, you can have it. Add the High Performance package to your EcoBoost trim for 330 horses and 350 pound-feet of torque.
GT models are more powerful, thanks to their robust 5.0-liter V8 engine. Mustang GT drivers can tap into 460 horses and 420 pound-feet of torque. In the special Bullitt model, a modified intake manifold gives this engine a boost, increasing output to 480 horses.
