When you’re shopping for a small crossover, both the 2020 Ford EcoSport and Kia Niro have what it takes to get you around in style. So which should you choose? At Jones Ford, we’re happy to help you take a closer look at each of these subcompact crossover models.
On-Road Comfort: 2020 Ford EcoSport
Both the Ford EcoSport and Kia Niro set you up in roomy comfort. These crossovers might technically fall into the subcompact segment, but they both make excellent use of interior space.
The EcoSport is known for its comfy seats, which are a big plus for commuters. The automatic climate control system maintains your perfect temperature in spite of any weather conditions. We also like how quiet the cabin is; you’ll never struggle to hear your favorite passengers.
Inside the Kia Niro, the first thing you’ll notice is its smooth, comfortable ride. The seats also supply generous comfort, especially if you’re shopping for lateral and lumbar support. However, the Niro isn’t as quiet as the EcoSport; wind and road noise have a tendency to infiltrate the cabin.
Tech Gear: 2020 Ford EcoSport
This battle between the EcoSport and the Niro was another close call. Both small crossovers put an emphasis on smartphone integration, with available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. And both Ford’s Sync 3 and Kia’s Uvo infotainment systems are easy to use, even if you’re not a technology mastermind.
However, the EcoSport does offer a feature you won’t find on the Niro — a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. To bring a strong Wi-Fi connection with you on the road, choose the EcoSport.
Thrifty Ride: 2020 Kia Niro
Sporty Performance: 2020 Ford EcoSport
While the Niro is the thriftier model, the EcoSport is the fun-loving, sporty one. Unlike the Niro, the EcoSport offers all-wheel drive for light off-roading and improved athleticism back on the pavement. The EcoSport also offers a sportier engine upgrade - a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 166 horsepower.
The Niro shines in the efficiency department. However, in its default Eco mode, you may feel it’s too slow, especially from a standing stop. And every Niro features the same hybrid powertrain, a four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor that makes a total of 139 horses. Therefore, it’s not as capable as the upgraded EcoSport.
While the 2020 Kia Niro specializes in efficiency, its thriftiness comes at the expense of sportiness. Meanwhile, with its athleticism and rich interior comfort, the 2020 Ford EcoSport is more of a modern commuter.
