Got your eye on the 2020 Ford Edge and Nissan Kicks? It’s easy to see why. These sporty crossovers do double duty as family haulers and workweek commuters. So which model is more your type, the Edge or the Kicks? Jones Ford has the comparison guide for the info you seek.
Plush Comfort: 2020 Ford Edge
As Ford’s midsize crossover, roomy comfort comes more naturally to the Edge. The Kicks is a subcompact crossover, so rear-seat legroom isn’t quite as generous. But both crossovers keep front-seat passengers comfy for the long haul, with plenty of space and supportive seat cushioning.
Besides having a roomier cabin, the Ford Edge also offers more luxury options. For example, you can add high-end features like leather upholstery, heated seats, and ambient interior lighting. The Kicks only offers faux leather upholstery, however, which doesn’t have doesn’t have quite as upscale a vibe.
Savviest Technology: 2020 Ford Edge
The Edge gives you the most in standard tech features. The base lineup includes everything you need for maximum connectivity, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Sync 3 infotainment system is also standard. With its crisp graphics and responsive menu buttons, the system’s 8-inch touch screen is easy to use, even when you’ve got most of your focus on the road.
With its standard suite of safety aids, the 2020 Edge also keeps you out of trouble. Features like lane-keeping assist and forward collision warning come at no extra cost.
The base Nissan Kicks model, the Kicks S, doesn’t come standard with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto capabilities, but you’ll find this technology on every other trim level. Unlike the Edge, the Kicks doesn’t offer optional navigation technology.
However, we do like the Kicks’s safety aids, which alert you to potential danger without overdoing it. Many safety features are standard equipment, including blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control.
Thrifty Commuting: 2020 Nissan Kicks
Sporty Performance: 2020 Ford Edge
For a fun-loving drive, choose the 2020 Ford Edge. With optional all-wheel-drive, Ford’s midsize crossover feels even sportier, especially on a curvy road. This performance gear also comes in handy on wet roads, where extra traction means a safer performance.
In the performance department, the Nissan Kicks also has some high points. For one thing, it handles nicely on a twisting road. For another, the Kicks is easy to handle, thanks in part to its responsive suspension and smooth-shifting transmission. On the downside, though, the Kicks isn’t available with all-wheel drive. And it’s not as quick to get going as the more powerful Escape.
The 2020 Nissan Kicks will help you pinch pennies at the pump, but the 2020 Ford Edge is the roomier, sportier, and smarter option. To check out Ford’s midsize crossover, stop by Jones Ford.
