Choosing between the 2020 Ford Ranger and GMC Canyon need not be a chore. At Jones Ford, we’re here to help you figure out which midsize truck has all of the capabilities you need and the features you crave.
Configuration Options: It’s a Tie!
Both the Ford Ranger and GMC Canyon offer two body styles. Choose between two cabins and two bed lengths for the configuration that speak to your passenger and cargo hauling needs. These trucks’ extended cabins provide seating for either two or four passengers, depending on whether you opt for rear jump seats. Crew cabins offer passenger space for five, including a roomier backseat.
These midsize pickup trucks are also available as different trim models. As you move up each trim level pecking order, each model supplies more tech and comfort features than the last, creating a more luxurious passenger experience. Both the Ranger and the Canyon can be outfitted with niceties like leather upholstery, heated seats, and cutting-edge infotainment systems.
Standard Safety: 2020 Ford Ranger
Because it comes standard with a longer list of driver aids, the Ranger leads the way for safety. Each of these Ford trucks comes standard with forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking. And all but the base Ranger feature the Co-Pilot360 package, which adds more driving aids. Features like blind-spot monitoring and lane-keeping assist help you spot dangerous situations.
The GMC Canyon offers a similar range of safety technology, but these systems aren’t available for every model. You can’t add any driver aids to the entry-level models. On the midsize SLE and All Terrain trims, safety aids like lane-departure and forward collision warning are optional. Only the top-trim Denali comes standard with any driver aids.
Off-Road Adventure: 2020 Ford Ranger
Both midsize trucks offer off-road-ready four-wheel drive, so you can make the most of a day out on the trail. But the Ranger is the only one that offers off-road packages for both its two- and four-wheel-drive trucks. No matter how you configure your powertrain, the Ford Ranger offers plenty of fun-loving adventure.
Besides not offering any off-road-friendly packages for two-wheel-drive trucks, the Canyon also features low-hanging chin spoiler, which needs to be removed for maximum ground clearance.
Max Towing: 2020 Ford Ranger
This is yet another category where the Ranger shines. Properly equipped, Ford’s midsize truck can tow up to 7,500 pounds. The 2020 Canyon lags behind, with tow ratings that reach only 7,000 pounds. If your boat is especially big, you’re going to need the Ranger.
While the 2020 GMC Canyon has a lot to offer, the 2020 Ford Ranger gives you a lot more for your money. To test-drive Ford’s modern midsize truck, visit us at Jones Ford, your friendly North Charleston Ford dealership
