The Rundown
The truck to end all trucks, the one truck to rule them all. Cheesy puns aside, the 2023 Ford Super Duty is more truck than most can handle, but for those who need it, it gets the job done. The Super Duty is able to tow up to 37,000 pounds with the proper towing set up. With all the different trucks and vehicles Ford has released in the past three years, it has been a busy few years, so busy in fact that Ford stopped taking orders on the 2022 Ford Super Duty. Many were worried this meant that the Super Duty would be discontinued shortly, and fortunately we learned there is nothing to worry about. Order banks for the 2023 Super Duty open up in mid-October, unofficially we have heard it may be on the 17th of October. The 2023 model has so far been heavily camouflaged, and no one has gotten a good sneak peek at the massive truck just yet. Since Ford is being so tight lipped about the Super Duty we expect at the least a redesign on the exterior of this big boy. With the upcoming changes we cannot wait for the 2023 Super Duty.
What’s New in 2023 on the Ford Super Duty?
From what we have seen, a lot of the changes will follow after the recent F-150 update. The F-150 received a refreshed dashboard with more modern tastes and screens, and the Super Duty is following this trend. We have also heard reports of a new grille on at least the King Ranch trim. The taillights have been updated as well as the headlights, looking more like the current F-150 model. An integrated bed step has been added to the truck bed as well, making it that much easier to hop into the bed.
What are the Powertrain options on the Super Duty?
We do not have much word on if there will be significant changes to the engine lineup on the Super Duty. Traditionally the truck has had 3 engines, the base engine is a 6.2-liter eight-cylinder engine with 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. The next optional engine is a 7.3-liter eight-cylinder engine that gets 430 horses with 475 pound-feet of torque. The diesel option is a 6.7-liter eight-cylinder engine that pumps out 475 horses and a whopping 1,050 pound-feet of torque. The base engine comes with a six-speed automatic transmission with an optional 10 speed automatic transmission. These engines are all workhorses and built to last, but maybe do not have the most comfortable handling when they are all alone. Once a trailer or weight is added to the back, the Super Duty goes to work and the ride evens out.
Summary
The Ford Super Duty truly is the beefiest truck one can get. With elephantine engines, cavernous cabins, brawny beds and titanic towing power the Super Duty gets it done. The 2023 model year promises to be an interesting one at least, and we cannot wait to see the final product. The Super Duty will feel and appear refreshed, more upscale and modern. While it's not here just yet, this is the hauling truck that we need in 2023, and it will be able to accomplish the simplest, or the messiest job.
