Third Generation: 2015-Current Model Year
What you’ll love about the third-generation used Ford Edge: Thanks to their sharp handling and easygoing manners, these crossovers make it easy to navigate cramped city spaces. Find a used model with all-wheel drive, and the Edge feels equally at home on light off-road trails.
As you shop around, you’ll find four trim models—the SE, SEL, Titanium, and Sport. Inside, these used Edge models are welcoming, with plenty of luxury upgrades available. Standard features include remote locking and air conditioning. If you’re looking for cutting-edge comfort, you’ll love the SEL, with its dual-zone climate control and power front seat. The classy Titanium adds leather upholstery and a hands-free liftgate. If you’re looking for more athleticism, the Sport delivers with its firmer suspension and turbocharged engine upgrade.
What to look out for: For the 2016 model year, the Edge introduced the Sync 3 infotainment system, replacing the MyFord Touch system in the lineup.
Second Generation: 2011-2014
What you’ll love about the second-generation used Ford Edge: During these model years, Ford’s midsize crossover developed a rep for roomy, modern cruising. This Edge is also a great pick for anyone who wants a great price on a five-passenger crossover. Sure, its CD player may not be all that useful to you, but many trim models also include the MyFord Touch infotainment interface. The latter features a central 8-inch touch-screen interface and dual screens in the instrument cluster.
This generation offers three engine options. The base engine is a 285-horsepower V6. But performance-based Sport models up the ante with a 305-horsepower turbocharged V6. An optional turbocharged four-cylinder engine balances power with fuel economy.
What to look out for: The optional turbocharged four-cylinder engine wasn’t available until the 2012 model year. Beginning in 2013, all-wheel drive was optional for all trim models, including the base SE.
First Generation: 2007-2010
What you’ll love about the first-generation used Ford Edge: These pre-owned crossovers treat you to generous passenger space and precise handling. Once you get going, the cabin keeps noise outside, where it belongs.
These Edges also supply lots of standard safety features. During this era, this meant that every trim model came with stability control with rollover avoidance technology, front-seat airbags, and antilock disc brakes.
What to look out for: The 2008 Edge was the first to add Ford’s Sync voice controls, which let you interact with compatible smartphones and devices.
