With its rugged performance gear and turbocharged power, the 2020 Ford Ranger is eager for your next adventure.
What’s new for the 2020 Ford Ranger?
This new fourth-generation Ranger first hit the road for the 2019 model year, reintroducing this Ford truck as a bigger, more powerful version of the midsize trucks of yore. There’s one big change for the 2020 Ford Ranger: it’s getting a new FX2 off-road package. This add-on gives two-wheel-drive Rangers extra trail capabilities with features that include off-road tires, rugged suspension gear, and an electronic-locking rear differential.
Which 2020 Ford Ranger trim model is right for me?
Choose from three rugged Ranger trim levels: XL, XLT, and Lariat. You’ll find the same powertrain under every Ranger hood, a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder that’s good for 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The Ranger’s 10-speed transmission is another nice touch, offering timely shifts and a little extra fuel economy at high speeds.
In the entry-level Ranger XL, you’ll find quite the modern lineup. The Wi-Fi hotspot, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and automatic emergency braking features all come at no extra cost. For a little extra peace of mind, you can always add the Co-Pilot360 package, which adds advanced safety features like lane keeping assist and pedestrian detection for the forward collision warning technology.
The middle-of-the-pack XLT offers an increasingly modern drive. Its convenience lineup includes keyless entry and Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment system. The latter keeps you connected with cutting-edge smartphone connectivity, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The XLT even includes a 110-volt power outlet, so you can keep your LED lantern charged throughout the longest of camping trips.
The XLT also offers greater room for configuration, with three options packages. The 301A package adds a little extra style, with features that include a leather-wrapped steering wheel and power-folding mirrors. The 302A package adds remote engine start and power-adjustable heated front seats to the 301A items. With the 301A package, you can also add the Technology package, which literally helps you get around with front parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, and navigation.
At the top of the trim lineup, the Lariat impresses with its LED headlights and leather upholstery. This truck comes standard with everything in the 302A package, which means it’s both high-tech and luxurious. Add the 501A package for the Technology package items plus remote engine start and a premium 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system.
How much can the 2020 Ford Ranger tow and haul?
The midsize Ranger is more than capable of moving hefty workloads, with tow ratings of up to 7,500 pounds. When you’re bringing a boat along for the ride, the Ranger is the perfect road-trip hauler. And, depending on how you configure yours, this Ford truck can haul payloads of up to 2,080 pounds. That means it’s more than capable of transporting all of your favorite sports gear into the wilderness.
Where is the Ford Ranger made?
This all-American truck is indeed American-made. The 2020 Ranger is assembled at the Ford plant in Wayne, Michigan, alongside another American classic, the 2020 Ford Bronco.
