The Rundown
We can almost guarantee when you think of a pickup truck the Ford F-150 is the first truck that comes to your mind. The archetype of an American truck, the Ford F-150 was first introduced in 1975 and since then has become the best selling truck in America, and for good reason. The F-150 has not just aged like fine wine, it has kept up with the times perfectly, and the 2023 model is no exception. With the recent hybrid edition and electric option – reviewed separately – Ford continues to make the F-150 not just the most popular truck in America, but the most innovative. This truck is competitive and stays on top of the market because there really is an F-150 for any budget and for any need, from the well-priced XL and even to the posh and fancy Platinum trim. Want off-roading options? The F-150 has three off-roading options available at various price ranges. Looking for comfort and class? The King Ranch and Platinum trims provide luxury without going away from the tough bones of the F-150. Looking for a more standard truck? The XL and XLT get the job done without any need for fluff, and they still keep you comfortable and sure of your ride. Ford’s promise rings true, there is an F-150 for everyone.
What’s New in 2023 for the Ford F-150?
The Rattler trim is here and it offers a competitive off-roading option at a much cheaper price than the lofty Tremor and Raptor trims. This means the F-150 now has three tiers of off-roading, and the Rattler is now the entry level trim, and possibly the best beginner’s off-roading pickup in the market. The design includes cosmetic changes such as rattlesnake designs throughout the construction, dual-exhaust, larger wheels, descent control and an off-roading specific suspension. Although it might be the entry level off-roader we truly enjoy the name of the trim and the new fancy logos.
What Are All the Engines on the F-150?
This is to help you understand the available engines on the F-150, the engines are not all available on every trim. For example the hybrid engine is only available on the Lariat and up, off-roaders excluded. The engines are as follows:
- 3.3-liter six-cylinder engine that puts out 290 horses
- 5.0-liter eight-cylinder engine that puts out 400 horses
- 2.7-liter six-cylinder twin turbo engine that puts out 325 horses
- 3.5-liter six-cylinder twin turbo engine that puts out 400 horses
- 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine that puts out 250 horses
- 3.5-liter six-cylinder twin turbo hybrid engine that puts out 400 horses and has a range of 700 miles
As you can see with all the various engines there really is an F-150 for every need, and each engine will get the job done, they might just be different jobs.
What Is the Towing Capacity of the F-150?
One of the most important parameters when choosing a pickup is just how much weight the truck can tow. Each engine can tow different amounts, here are their capacities as follows:
- 3.3-liter v6 tows up to 8,200 pounds
- 5.0-liter v8 tows up to 13,000 pounds
- 2.7-liter v6 tows up to 10,1000 pounds
- 3.5-liter v6 tows up to 14,000 pounds
- 3.0-liter diesel v6 tows up to 12,100 pounds

The Ford F-150 has a variety of engines, and each engine has the capacity to get the job done.
